What Makes Earbuds Good for Calls?
Music quality and call quality are two different things. In fact, many earbuds that sound great for songs have weak mics. So before we get to the list, here is what to look for in earbuds for calls under 2000.
ENC vs ANC: Which One Helps Calls?
These two short forms confuse a lot of buyers. However, the difference is simple:
- ENC (environmental noise cancellation) works on the mic. It reduces the noise around you, so the other person hears your voice more clearly.
- ANC (active noise cancellation) works on the speaker. It blocks noise for you, so you can hear better in a metro or bus. You can read more about how active noise control works.
When you compare earbuds for calls under 2000, ENC is the must-have. ANC is a bonus that makes noisy places more comfortable. Ideally, get both.

How to Test Earbuds for Calls at Home
Specs only tell half the story. So the best way to judge earbuds for calls is a real call, done within the return window.
- Call a friend from a quiet room first. Ask them how your voice sounds. This is the best case.
- Now walk next to a road or turn on a fan. Ask again. Good ENC keeps your voice clear while the background fades.
- Record a voice note on WhatsApp outdoors. Play it back. If your voice sounds robotic or cuts in and out, return the earbuds.
Common Mistakes When Buying Budget Earbuds
These are the mistakes we see most often with earbuds for calls under 2000:
- Buying only for bass. Heavy bass sounds fun, but it does nothing for calls.
- Trusting "50 dB ANC" claims blindly. Budget ANC numbers are often optimistic. User reviews tell you more.
- Ignoring fit. If an earbud does not sit well, the mic points the wrong way and the seal is weak. Try all ear tip sizes in the box.
- Skipping reviews about calls. Search the reviews for the word "mic" or "call". Our guide on spotting fake reviews shows which reviews to trust.
