What to check before buying earbuds

  • Fit comes first. Earbuds that don't seal properly sound thin and leak noise, whatever the specs say. Look for multiple ear-tip sizes in the box.
  • ANC (active noise cancellation) helps a lot on buses, trains and flights. In budget earbuds it is usually milder than in premium ones, so read reviews that talk about real use.
  • Battery: the big number (e.g. '40 hours') includes the case. Look at the earbuds-only figure — 5 to 8 hours is good — and whether fast charging is supported.
  • Calls: if you take a lot of calls, check reviews for mic quality outdoors. 'ENC' or 'quad mic' claims don't always mean clear calls in traffic.
  • Gaming: a low-latency mode matters if you play games or watch videos a lot.
  • Water resistance: IPX4 or higher is enough for sweat and light rain.

How much should you spend?

Under ₹1,500 you get decent everyday earbuds from brands like boAt, Noise and realme — fine for calls and music, with basic ANC at best. Between ₹1,500 and ₹4,000 is the sweet spot, where proper ANC, better mics and app support show up. Above that, you're paying for better sound tuning, stronger ANC and brand ecosystem features.

Earbuds go on deep discount often, so there's rarely a reason to pay full price — watch this page or our Telegram channel for a drop.

Frequently asked questions

Is ANC worth it in budget earbuds?+

Yes, if you commute. Even mild ANC cuts engine and fan noise, so you can listen at a lower volume. Just don't expect it to match premium earbuds.

Earbuds or neckband — which is better?+

Neckbands usually have longer battery life and are harder to lose; earbuds are more portable and comfortable for long wear. For workouts and calls on the move, both work well.
